- News Notes--includes:
- ‘Green Community’ Designation – Congrats to everyone involved, especially Ald. Crossley, in making this happen. Many city departments also invested time & energy into this and they deserve much of the credit too. Newton was granted the designation along with 35 other communities across the Commonwealth. The next important date is June 4 when the grant application is due. These 35 communities will now be competing to qualify for a grant of up to $1 million out of the $8.1 million available.
- Comprehensive Plan Mixed Use Task Force – I am pleased to announce that I have asked Ald.
Danberg, Fischman and Sangiolo to serve on this task force. I think all three colleagues bring a
great perspective and will be extremely helpful in the discussions. This task force, being formed by
Mayor Warren, will help to “clarify (the City’s) vision for mixed use centers.” The end result will
be an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan. This amendment will be approved by the Mayor,
Board of Aldermen and Planning & Development Board. The TF will be meeting throughout the
summer and will present draft results in the early fall. Meetings will be open to all Board members
and if there are items you feel would be important for discussion regarding mixed use throughout
Newton, please do not hesitate to connect with Vicki, Mitch or Amy. - Information regarding Disaster Assistance Deadline – EXTENDED TO MONDAY, JUNE
28th. This information was reported last week but the deadline to file has been extended another month. If you have any questions regarding this information or the process, do not hesitate to contact NPD Executive Officer Lt. Hugh Downing at 617.796.2101
